Wednesday Update - XBLA Release/DOTW

Alright, so the above image isn't from the game being released today due to license issues. Still, Tecmo Bowl Throwback is up on XBLA today, marking a re-release of one of the greatest football games ever created. 800 MS Points buys you a lot of childhood memories right there, even if you can't scream out TOUCHDOWN BO JACKSON legitimately. I won't hold it against you if you do, so go right ahead.

Also this week, Dishwasher: Dead Samurai has its priced chopped in half (see what I did there?) for the rest of the week, costing you 400 MS Points instead of the usual 800. A great game that is definitely worth the five bucks, even if I did think it got a little repetitive...could just be that I sucked at it. Probably that. :(

Wednesday Update - XBLA Release

Incredibly short and incredibly late post about a game that's incredibly relevant. Final Fight: Double Impact was released on the 360 for 800 MS Points. Not only does it have the first Final Fight (I hate "Final" games that end up being a series) but it also has Magic Sword, giving you two beat-em-ups for the price of one. Get a friend, buy the game, and have a good time with a couple of arcade classics that are still fun to this day.

Wednesday Update - XBLA release, upcoming XBLA deals

A few weeks late to the party, XBox Live brings Mega Man 10 to our 360s today, feeding the hungry gamers that do not have Wiis or PS3s (or just really wanted the achievements). I hear the platforming isn't as stupid hard as MM9, thankfully, so I won't feel too handicapped with these high heels and this awkward purse.

No, really, this purse is hella annoying when I run. Throws my weight off like whoa.

(...I need something to say, I said everything about MM10 a month ago.)

Moving on, anyone looking for some cheap 360 games would do well to hop on Live sometime between April 1st and April 7th as ten games are getting a price cut. Nearly all of them go from 800 MS Points to 400, though one (Track and Field) goes from 400 to 240 and Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix gets slashed from 1200 MS Points to a jaw-dropping 560. 15 bucks down to 7, making it the best deal for the best game on the list (in my incredibly opinionated...er...opinion). Full list is as follows:

- Age of Booty 400 points (usually 800)
- Defence Grid, 400 points (usually 800)
- Lumines LIVE, 400 points (usually 800)
- Mad Tracks, 400 points (usually 800)
- Rocket Riot, 400 points (usually 800)
- Schizoid, 400 points (usually 800)
- South Park Let's Go Tower Defense Play!, 400 points (usually 800)
- Super Street Fighter II HD, 560 points (usually 1200)
- Track & Field, 240 points (usually 400)
- Wallace & Gromit Episode 1, 400 points (usually 800)

Details are here on XBox UK's Faceyspace page. I personally recommend Mad Tracks and SF2HDR and may very well end up with Defense Grid and Rocket Riot on my 360 sometime this weekend.

Wednesday Update -- XBLA Release, Indie Interview on FD

Today sees the release of lots of games within a game on XBox Live. Game Room was released, marking the end of XBox Live Arcade's Block Party. The "game" itself is free but each arcade game within it is 3 to 5 bucks. An interesting idea and a good way to get a lot of those old arcade and Atari games out onto the system without wasting a week's XBLA time slot that could be spent on something a little more robust. I'll probably be wasting a little time (and a little money) on it later tonight. It's worth mentioning that this is a cross-platform title that can be played on both your 360 and PC, and I'm pretty sure your achievements go back and forth as well.

Also this week, I posted an interview with Soulcaster developer MagicalTimeBean on the other place I sell my soul and free time to, ForceDisconnect.com. You can find the interview here. Thanks again Ian, always a pleasure.

Wednesday Update -- XBLA Release and DOTW

Pretty good week for nostalgia. Monday saw the release of Rondo of Blood on the Wii VC and today brings a remake of the N64 favorite Perfect Dark to the XBox 360. 800 MS Points brings you the memories of shooting little aliens and pulling countless all-nighters, all without needing one of those stupid Expansion Paks.

Speaking of going back in time a little, this week's Deal of the Week on XBox Live sees a 400 MS Point reduction for three XBox Originals. GTA: San Andreas, Max Payne 2, and Fable are all available for 800 points a piece.

Wednesday Update -- XBLA Release

Quick update. The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom, a puzzle-based platformer of sorts, is available on XBox Live for 800 MS Points. I can't recommend trying this game enough. The charm alone is worth the time to download the free demo. I can't wait to dive into the game later this week. Expect a review within the next two weeks.

Wednesday Update -- XBLA release, XBLA DOTW

This Wednesday's XBLA update is a long-awaited port of a PC favorite, Darwinia+. The game was retooled for the 360 to try and fit the RTS gameplay with the 360 controller. Definitely trying the demo out when I get a chance, though the 1200 MS Point purchase will probably have to wait for a while.

Also this week is a discount on three other games normally priced at 1200 MS Points. Invincible Tiger, Marvel vs Capcom 2, and TMNT Turtles in Time Reshelled are all 800 MS Points until the end of the week. I personally didn't care for the TMNT remake and MVC2 - though a great game - isn't my cup of tea. Invincible Tiger, however, looks interesting and may make it into a future review.

Wednesday Update -- XBLA Release

Wednesday is always a fun day for me, mostly because I love seeing the new games on XBLA. Sometimes they're junk, sometimes they're obscure, and sometimes they suck my life away for weeks or even months, but it's always interesting. Today's entry is no exception. Musical-puzzler Chime is this week's sole XBLA entry this week but it's definitely interesting. Any fans of Lumines know how fun it can be when how well you do directly affects what happens to the song you're hearing and Chime delivers that same feeling. In addition to being a solid title, Chime weighs in at a mere 400 MS Points, a bargain usually reserved for Indie Game titles, and no less than 60% of that five dollars will go toward OneBigGame. So, let's review. Fun game, cheap price, and you help charity.

...why are you still here? ;P

Wednesday Update -- XBLA Release, XBL DOTW

Wednesdays are usually interesting to people with XBox Live. Today doesn't float my personal boat, however, outside of the name of the XBLA offering KrissX, pronounced "Kriss Cross" or "Kris Kross" for those who may have wanted to "jump jump" upon mention. If I were a younger boy (like 15 years younger) I'd probably be all over this, but I personally like my word games to involve me thinking of a word rather than just unscrambling them. To each their own, though, and 800 points grabs it if it grabs you.

Also 800 points for this week is Portal: Still Alive. That's 5 bucks easier to get if you've been on the fence about it. See what all your friends are talking about when they mention the false reality of certain baked goods. If you say it to me, though, so help me I'll never invite you to my birthday party again. Seriously.

Wednesday Update -- XBLA release (Serious Sam)

This week's XBLA release is the HD re-release of Serious Sam: The First Encounter. I don't think there are too many FPS games these days that are so focused on old-school gratuitous shooting, so anyone who just wants to blow crap up should at least check the demo out. 1200 points buys you single-player, online only co-op, and a lot of bullets. Doesn't do anything for me, however, unless you count the massive headache and possible lunch tossing.
